new but maybe be leaving...

I'm new here... hello!

My daughter is 3 1/2 years old and has always been an avid nurser. I thought I was gonna lose it mentally a few times in the first 2 yrs due to lack of sleep... she pretty much nursed every 2-3 hrs around the clock until 20 months. I finally night weaned her around 2 1/2.

I have loved our nursing relationship. I never planned to nurse this long... she demanded it and I was priveldged enough to meet her demands.

I guess she is almost weaned now. She hasn't nursed in 4 days... she has been skipping days for the past 4 or 5 months.

Kinda sad but we are both ready!

This is a short story I have written for Fertile Ground a really awesome zine ( http://www.fertilegroundzine.com/ )!

I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I wasn't.

It was hot, really hot and humid but somehow my mother convinced my three year old daughter, Tyla, and I to brave the stifling heat and take her to the Bronte Spring Harbour Fest. There was very little shade. Of course, Tyla wanted to ride the merry-go-round, the train and all the exciting rides in the little midway where there was absolutely no shade at all. I have the bad habit of always making sure Tyla has a hat and sunscreen but me... well... I hate sunscreen, forgot my rarely worn hat and was starting to burn. My mother found a nice shady bench to sit on, gave us $20, and relaxed.

After Tyla fearlessly climbed the 50 foot high blow-up slide and eventually came down, not so fearlessly, all she wanted to do was bounce. Like most kids, Tyla loves jumping and bouncing in the Moon Walk (blow-up bouncy rooms). Her face began to turn redder and redder with each bounce. When would the guy working this thing say "times up" I thought to myself. Oh, I get it, Tyla and I are the only ones silly enough to brave the full sun of the Moon Walk. The guy was probably hoping Tyla's squeals of joy would attract some other kids. "Tyla, you have five more minutes then you have to get out." I shout. Quickly, I decide I'm too hot for five more minutes and to get eye contact with Tyla so she knows I'm serious, etc. In my state a bribe is the best solution! Again, I shout, "Tyla, I saw a place where you can get a fancy hair-do, you want to go check it out."

It worked and soon we were settled under the shady tent with the sign, Barbados Hair Braids. I barter the price of a full head of braids down to something reasonable for a three year old, double check that Tyla is willing to sit still for half an hour, help her pick out her beads and finally chill… for a full half hour.

To the hairdresser’s amazement, Tyla sat still the whole time. She has always loved having her hair played with but I really think it was the boobs that kept her there! After she was finished, we had cooled down and moved on, she exclaimed, "they had really big boobies’ mama, beautiful boobies.” Tyla has always been an avid boob girl, nursing at least every 3 hours until she was eighteen months old. Recently, she’s decided to slow down her nursings on my boobs, even skipping a day here and there! Yup, she loves boobies and both sets were at eye level for Tyla the entire time!

I guess I was thinking after all. Tyla was very proud of her first professional hair-do that jangled with beads as she turned her head. She had a good visual dose of beautiful breasts and I was cooled down enough to say, “it’s time to head indoors.”
